The Longest Mile

My sis is on her way to the US. But she's having to endure such a long flight...

She first caught a one hour flight from Chennai to Mumbai, India. At Mumbai she had a four hour wait before boarding the plane to Amsterdam.

I just checked her flight status online and her flight has just arrived at Schiphol Airport in Amsterday - a 9 hour, 20 minute flight. Now the poor thing has an 8 hour wait at that airport, before she can board her connecting flight which is another 9 hours, 40 minutes long, to Memphis, USA.

And wait, her marathon journey still doesn't end there! She waits in Memphis for an hour or two before she then proceeds to catch the next connecting flight to St. Louis, MO - this flight will take her about an hour and 10 minutes. We'll pick her up there, and then drive to Carbondale - the drive takes about 2 hours.

Total time to get from Chennai, India to Carbondale, Illinois? 37 hours and 10 minutes.

By the time she reaches Memphis she will be feeling pretty suicidal, I can bet you. These journeys take a lot out of you. It's no wonder I dread the thought of the journey if I am to go home and visit my folks.

Not to forget that she was allowed no carry-on baggage, due to the recent security threats. All she was allowed was a small handbag containing a wallet, passport, comb, toothbrush, a book and lip gloss. No electronics, no CD-Player, no liquid medication, no toothpaste, etc.

What has the world come to?
